Arsenal among the teams chasing impressive Southampton teenager

Arsenal is among a plethora of clubs interested in signing Romeo Lavia from Southampton, reports Football Insider.

The 19-year-old midfielder has garnered interest from clubs across Europe, making him one of the most sought-after talents in the upcoming transfer window.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is a big admirer of Lavia, as the Gunners aim to bolster their midfield for a strong push in the Premier League and Champions League next season.

However, while Arsenal has explored the possibility of a deal, they are also targeting other midfield targets such as Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo.

Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea are the other clubs that are said to be keen on the teenager., according to the same report

Just Arsenal Opinion

This one feels a little speculative to be honest, for starters Man City do have a buy-back clause, albeit not activated until next summer, Chelsea will buy almost anyone they can get their hands on and Liverpool does need a complete midfield overhaul.

The point is that the competition for the players’ signature is fierce and Arsenal seems to have its attention elsewhere.

Still, it’s worth keeping an eye on.

  1. With a full year under his belt, he’s worth keeping on eye on.

    On another matter.
There is a report last night that states, Saliba connection rejects Arsenal offer, saying that £120 gran a week is not even close to what they are looking for.

    1. Gunsmoke – if that is true then let him go, but only if that is true. I’m fed up with players haggling for more and more money. Not only that, we can never be sure if he’s going to really be worth it. He was excellent for us most of the season, but sometimes he could be quite ordinary. There are reasons for me to say that, but I think I’d be shot down if overly critical. He wasn’t always perfect. Sure I want him to stay but not if there’s any nonesense going on. You
see, the guys have seen Starboy prosper and they now all want a bit more of the cake.

      1. For GS and EvG Ji
On this one I have to disagree with both of you. In this modern day and age of ridiculous wages 120k a week is small for Saliba for a key member of a CL qualifier. It should be north of £ 150K a week especially if TP earns above £ 250K and Saka earns £ 290K including bonuses.
£ 120K a week is the kind of wage he would get @ teams finsihing 5th, 6th 7th and 8th.

        1. IGL Ji – You are right, it seems normal now for players to receive way over £100k-£200k per week, however it depends on how much Saliba may be wanting. Yes give him his big bucks but within reason. Any moment now Jon Fox is going to intervene and I’m very much looking forward to what he will say. You didn’t know I am his agent and promoter did you.
I was shocked when I heard how much Thomas P was allegedly getting, but that doesn’t mean the floodgates shoud open.
Ji, it is so difficult these days to balance what is financially right or wrong and having a competitive team. There are no easy answers. Man City, Man U and Chelsea players are probably having much fun and jubilation looking at their bank accounts and investments. All I want Arsenal to do is to COACH our players to be successful on the pitch, because I’m not sure throwing masses of money around is going to guarantee any club to produce a winning team.
Do you remember BRIAN CLOUGH by the way ?
Yes they were different times back then, but what he achieved with what he had at his disposal was completely phenomenal. GENIUS.

          1. Who could forget Clough! A miracle merchant. Forest had a bang average team but they achieved and achieved. Every kid in my school when I came to the UK in 1979 was saying, he should have been England manager, if we wanted to win anything. He was not selected because of the way he spoke to the press. Is that a criterion for selection (press conferences!!)?

            1. IGL – Brian is another hero of mine. Yes he loved himself, yes he was big-headed, yes he became a drunkard, but boy could he get players to go from zero to brilliant. John Robertson, Viv Anderson etc.
It was sad that even though myself and many thousands (millions) of fans wanted him to be England manager, right at the end of Brian’s great era a Liverpudlian(scouse) who I worked with, summed up Brian Clough as just being a
              “piss-head”.
Brian Clough THE MAN deserved alot more than that.

            2. 👍 The way of the world; total separation from the lives of and out of touch with the ordinary punters, who attend matches or pay their “pay to view” subscriptions.

            3. Brian Clough was during his playing days, one of the best centre forwards in England, yet rarely was capped. Even in those days he upset “the powers rhat be” ie selectors; he made it clear he couldn’t tolerate fools gladly.

          2. EG. my views on Salibas wants are complicated I do believe he is, by a considerable distance, our very best CB sinc e Sol Campbell. I also believe that had he stayewd fit last seaon we may wellhave won the title When he got injured we fell away badly but propop to his injry we wr winning consistently Yes thet ewwere othe rfactots involve sin our slump beside jis injury but the knock on effect was IMO, a massive reason for us losing the title, versus otherwise perhaps, even probably , winning. it.

So despite my loathingof all the greed that goes on with virtually all Prem players, IF we are going to be realists and put up with that greed, which I have loathed for countless years past , then we have no sensible alternative than to give him what he wants to keep him here. If we lose him, the team will suffer and that is the bottom line to me.

WE WILL BE VERY UNLIKELY TO FIND ANOTHER OF HIS STATURE ANYWHERE
And even if we did, it would be cheaper to pay SALIBA what he demands , than to splash out a fortune on a new possibly top class CB. I say its pragmatic and wise to pay him a deal more, IF necessary. Thats why contracts involve intense negotiation before they are agreed..

HOWEVER, if I could persuade all PREM FANS en masse, to boycott grounds totally, until all players agreed to accept far less , I would go down that route gladly
But we both know that that can never happen, love it though I may.

Next time we speak, I will tell you about going to Derby back in1972 when we away fans met Clough personally outside the Baseball ground, a few hours before Derby thrashed us , the reigning champs, en route to Derby winning the 1972 title.

Always admired Clough and always will, my friend.

            1. Jon – thanks for that. Of course I know how you feel about greed so no surprises there. I agree with you that something should be done to stop the immensely over-inflated salaries, but it would take a real effort for fans to boycott en masse in order to achieve what we know is right.
With regard to Brian Clough, have we ever seen a phenomena of his ilk before or since for that matter. Whether or not one liked him, in my opinion he is a one of a kind and immortal in footballing terms. A rampant goal scorer in the old Second Division as of course you know.
When you met him did he kiss you guys at all ? He was known for doing such things. One of the funniest moments I remember was him, possibly live on TV bursting into “S’Wonderful” the old Gershwin tune. So brilliant and my kind of guy…. I think.

              1. EG what a thought! Being kissed by Clough! I think I would have made the front pages if that had happened.
But I admired him from afar.

Even though he never wrote and never phoned. Eventually, I REALISED HE NEVER LOVED ME AT ALL

Seriously he did ask did we fans, around a dozen of us, around three hours prior to kick off, “have we got tickets”. We had.

I remember we were a bit awed and dumbstruck that he spoke to us , quite normally too. He crossed over the side road to come to us too
He was very nice. As I came to realise in later years, that was his real nature when away from the cameras, though when in front of them, he was prone to showing off.

As a stage person I WELL UNDERSTAND THAT of course. So sad that drink shortened his life.

        2. 👍 The way of the world; total separation from the lives of and out of touch with the ordinary punters, who attend matches or pay their “pay to view” subscriptions.

      2. I have absolutely no reason to doubt this report, this is the latest of multiple reports that have seen where is connection is demanding a pisspot load of money.

The fans base seems to like him or they are just been sheer smart as to how they treated him.
He had come under no pressure or sticks in comparison to Magalhaes from fans and pundits, yet he makes mistakes.

But there are a few things we must take into consideration though as one could argue he deserves a pisspot load more.

The report went on to say he’s currently on £40,000 a week and Arsenal are prepared to triple it to £120, his connection out rightly rejected.

I always try to be just , so let us put a few things into perspective.

        1) What would it take to replace a player of his caliber
        2) What would we pay a player of his calibre if we were to bring one in.
3)Would Arsenal had wrestle away the big jug from the Citizens had he not injured.
4)How much time does he has left on his contract .
5)Why wasn’t his and Guendouzi contract renew when sending back on loan, like say Balogun.

It seems just like Guendouzi the kid wasn’t taken seriously

But Edu has back his self into a corner, the kid is into an extremely good position with PSG circling.

With Saka just getting a pisspot load of money, Martinelli just slightly off the pace but would have sign for less due to love and a different mentality.

Now Arsenal got no choice but hand the young Frenchman that pisspot load of money.

    2. Your comments concerning Saliba are entirely justified EG.He is a real talent but he is not the finished article by any means nor is his partner Gabriel..As to Lavia who handed Jota a gift of a goal on Sunday, there are other youngsters in the Southampton squad who impress me more, namely Kamaldeen Sulemana and Carlos Alcaraz.

      1. Grandad, yes Lavia made a bad mistake on Sunday just one of those things, and Alcaraz indeed looks a player (as does Enciso at Brighton). Whenever you are ready to talk Scottish greats I’ll be happy to accommodate.

  2. give Saliba 120kpw basic, rising to 180kpw based on appearances/performances: if he performs at the 180k level for most of the season then let it automatically become his basic for the remainder of the contract

with his injury he needs to demonstrate he can actually still play at the level required…we don’t want a Ledley King type situation here

having this question mark hanging over his fitness to play will temper the willingness of clubs to make big offers for him this summer, knowing they would have to pay us a fee to get him too – few clubs will offer him £200k+ – Madrid, PSG, Bayern probably – but does he want to go to Germany or back to France? – has he been tapped up by Zidane? probably
